Fritzie's Journey: From Critical Care to Happy Recovery
Fritzie, a young Aussie doodle, was referred to DoveLewis by Tanasbourne Veterinary Emergency for continued care. Her journey began when her family found an open bottle of Advil, but Fritzie’s symptoms didn’t immediately follow. She vomited soon after, but no tablets were found. The next day, Fritzie stopped eating, developed excessive thirst and urination, and experienced vomiting and diarrhea.
At Tanasbourne ER, Fritzie was diagnosed with severe dehydration and severe azotemia, a condition where high levels of waste products build up in the blood due to impaired kidney function. After initial treatment, she was transferred to DoveLewis. Here, our team, with the expertise of board-certified Internist Dr. Barbara Davis, took over her care. Fritzie’s condition was challenging, with acute kidney injury and mild pancreatitis being significant concerns. We worked to stabilize her with a combination of fluids, medications, and close monitoring.
Dr. Davis and our team worked tirelessly to alleviate Fritzie’s symptoms and enhance her kidney function. While the precise cause of her kidney issues remains unclear, Fritzie made remarkable progress. She started eating and drinking more comfortably, and her blood values reflected positive improvements.
Today, Fritzie’s family continues to visit Dr. Davis and our Internal Medicine team for regular check-ups, ensuring Fritzie remains happy and healthy. We’re thrilled to see her doing so well, and we're always here to provide the comprehensive treatment and ongoing support she needs.
