DoveLewis 24/7 Emergency Hospital Remains Open during Stay at Home Order

Considered an essential service to the community, DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital remains open for 24/7 care.

PORTLAND, Ore. – DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital’s 24-hour emergency and critical care services are open for animals in need. For the safety of staff, patients, and their families, the nonprofit hospital has implemented social distancing best-practices during the patient visit, including a triage decision-making tree to minimize risk of exposure, options for curbside and remote communication, defined queuing points, and overflow lobby availability to reduce client density.

People with pets in need of emergency veterinary care are asked to consider the following:

  • DoveLewis is open 24-hours a day
  • If your pet needs emergency care, and you currently have symptoms of respiratory illness (or are within the home isolation period as defined by the CDC), please consider the following options:
    • Designate another healthy family member or friend to bring your pet to DoveLewis.
    • If you must bring your pet yourself, please call DoveLewis’ main line before exiting your car to facilitate a safe transfer of your pet to DoveLewis’ care. This may involve collecting the pet in the hospital’s parking area.
  • All elective procedures are postponed to conserve medical supplies for life-saving procedures. DoveLewis specialty departments (cardiology, internal medicine and surgery) are seeing urgent and emergency cases.
  • Patient visitation policies have been adjusted to reduce the threat of exposure for everyone involved in each pet’s care. This is at the discretion of DoveLewis veterinarians, and they may offer exceptions based on a patients’ condition.
  • DoveLewis is asking clients and staff to practice social distancing best-practices and is providing visual guides for check-in and waiting experiences.
