March Learning Lecture: Basic Anatomy and Veterinary Care of Avian Patients
In this lecture with Exotics Technician Jamie Michaelis, CVT, we will discuss the basic anatomy of avian patients, including external anatomy, the respiratory system, the gastrointestinal system, and a brief overview reproductive system. We will then discuss basic veterinary care of bird species, including how to house them in a veterinary setting, restrain them for basic procedures, obtain radiographs, and access venipuncture sites. By the end of this lecture, you will hopefully feel more confident when having an avian patient in your clinic.
Want to put your new knowledge into practice? After the lecture, stick around for a hands-on lab where you can practice restraining and bandaging techniques under Jamie's guidance. We'll provide all the supplies and bandaging materials so you can practice and ask questions. This portion is optional and not required for CE credit.
