Among other things, the Portland area is well-known for its abundance of parks and greenery. As an added bonus, many of these parks are dog-friendly and provide amenities specifically suited to you and your canine. Check out these five great picks for dog-friendly parks in the Portland area.

  1. Hazeldale Park: Offering a two-acre off-leash plot with separate fencing for small and large dogs, this park in the Beaverton area of Portland is great for dogs. Roomy with scattered trees, there are poop bag dispensers on site, as well as running water. Located at SW 192nd and Farmington Rd.
  2. Chimney Park:  This large, off-leash dog park in North Portland is well-maintained with plenty of room for fetch and many trees for shade. The park is completely fenced and although there is no running water, there are poop bag dispensers and garbage cans for cleaning up after your pooch. Located at 9360 N Columbia Blvd.
  3. Gabriel Park: A popular spot for dogs and their owners, Gabriel Park’s 1.5 acre off-leash area provides ample room for play. The area is part of a larger regional park with sports courts and numerous trails. There are well-maintained amenities including poop bags, garbage cans, and running water. The perimeter is completely fenced. Located at SW 45th Ave & Vermont St.
  4. Normandale Park:  A dedicated off-leash park in Northwest Portland. This large, beautiful park offers plenty of room to run and romp. It is divided into two sections allowing for socializing dogs of different sizes and activity levels. A fence lines the entire perimeter and running water and poop bags are accessible. Located at NE 57th Ave & Halsey St.
  5. Hondo Dog Park: Named in honor of Hillsboro Police Dog Hondo, who was taken in the line of duty, this park is a beautifully maintained area with many amenities for your pooch. With nearly four acres of completely fenced park, and a fire hydrant memorial for Hondo, your canine should feel right at home. Amenities include poop bag dispensers, garbage cans, watering stations, and a double-gated entry. There is also a small-dog section, and dedicated winter area paved with gravel.
