DoveLewis Expands Teaching Mission to Developing Countries in Asia
PORTLAND, Ore. – DoveLewis Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital is expanding its teaching mission by providing free instructional videos to veterinary professionals and students in developing countries in Asia.
Since 2011, DoveLewis has provided online continuing education and practical training videos to veterinary professionals around the world through a subscriber-based program, atdove.org. The site features more than 450 procedural videos of real cases from the hospital floor, as well as informational tools and blogs that cover industry topics.
In 2015, DoveLewis partnered with digital specialist Vetstream to serve more than 330 practices in Namibia, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with free content. Now, in partnership with the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA), the number of benefiting countries has increased to include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, East Timor (Timor-Leste), Fiji, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
“There is a worldwide need for high-quality, relevant veterinary training resources,” said Ron Morgan, CEO of DoveLewis. “This partnership pairs the expertise of our teaching hospital with the reach of Vetstream and the WSAVA Foundation to make more education tools available at no cost to professionals striving to provide the best standard of care to the animals in their region.”
The no-cost resource will contain a specific collection of videos selected by veterinarians in developing countries as being most relevant to them, including introductions to microscopy, clinical pathology, bacteriology, cytology, radiology, dermatology and parasite control, wound care, and dressings and bandaging.
Initial rollout of the content will begin in early 2018.
